Suicide Prevention Resources
Hi! I’m Sarah. I’m a Social Worker and community birth worker with the goal of supporting all I can through the depths, darks, and beauty of life. I’ve been passionate about suicide prevention for years and found there was a huge stigma around talking about suicide, leading to a gap in crisis support. Even in my graduate program, professors and classmates were so hesitant to talk about suicide, despite suicide being one of the leading causes of death.
Talking about suicide can save a life. There are providers that can support people through these moments but often times people don’t want to or know how to reach out for support. I don’t believe in gate keeping resources and knowledge so here are some basic tools on how to talk about suicide, get people connected to crisis resources, and how to create a safety plan.
**These are not all encompassing, just a starting point. If you or someone you know are having thoughts of suicide or feelings of depression or isolation, please reach out for individualized support!
As of July 2022, 988 became the national suicide hotline number. Years later and much of our community does not know this exists. Please spread awareness of this 24/7 free resource!
Save this hotline number to your phone, print & tape this graphic to a bathroom door, write the 988 number on walls, make a sticker, help get this number and graphic out there to your community.
Safety Planning
Safety Planning
When someone is in crisis they have less access to their critical thinking skills and safety planning abilities so having their safety plan written down gives them something to turn to as a reference point when their brain struggles to remember those tools and resources.
